Cheers to 20!
March 31, 2021
It’s been 20 years as a married pair! But it’s been this past year that has brought so much thought and reflection about our relationship as we pushed and pulled on our old beliefs, asking questions, seeking wise counsel, and solidifying what we really believe.
You see, we used to say things to each other like, “You complete me” and “You’re my better half.” And we had rigid beliefs about the binding nature of marriage vows. But now we know these are not true for us anymore.
I am whole and compete as I am. Jon is whole and complete as he is. And while we are both still very committed to our marriage and each other, we now know we have to be free to choose leaving in order to be free to choose staying in our marriage. We are actively and intentionally choosing our marriage.
While we’re disappointed to be celebrating twenty years together during a pandemic, we are making the most of it - eating at ROC restaurants, listening to our favorite Broadway shows pretending we are in NYC, and testing driving Jeep’s .
Cheers to continuing to grow together!
