Summer Solstice Idea

June 19, 2023

Kinda last minute.

But I was just struck with an idea as I am doing schoolwork in my snow globe/porch-gloo.

And I’m wondering if you want to join in.

For me, May and June are typically super intense. Every single year. As much as I plan ahead, there are always curveballs that throw me into doing work every day/night/weekend, holding my breath and bracing until we make it to July.

And every year, I realize at the end of June that I once again missed appreciating the longest sunlight day of the year.

I don’t know why this is so disappointing to me, year after year. Maybe because the sunlight is so important to my own well-being and I want to take it in as much as possible. Maybe because I see it as the last opportunity to soak in as much daylight as possible before the light starts to fade a little earlier each day.

So this year I want to be intentional. The summer solstice falls on June 21st in the Western Hemisphere this year.

This Wednesday.

I am going to try and wake up at twilight (morning civil twilight for those of you who know about these things) and stay up until dark. Not sunrise or sunset. I want to see the first and last lights in the sky.

I plan to breathe as deeply as I can throughout the day.

I plan to be outside as much as I can throughout the day.

I plan to center my thoughts on gratitude as much as I can throughout the day.

For those in my area, the weather looks great! And the times I am going to try for are 4:56 am through 11:14 pm.

Wanna join me? Let me know in the comments here and then I’m thinking I will start a new post Wednesday morning and we can add updates in the comments of that one throughout the day about how we are being intentional in being present and taking in the day to its fullest!
