Our Pandemic Tree
January 11, 2021
For those who have been following our Christmas tree/Pandemic tree journey: Yesterday, the tree came down. For 408 consecutive days, it brought light and joy and hope to our family and perhaps those traveling up our hill.
As an adult, I’ve always been a little white lights person. But I started to feel a bit wild in 2019 and purchased a few sets of large color changing LED lights. I’m not sure what got into me, but these lights brought me so much joy! We typically keep our tree up for a while after the holiday season, but we were loving the lights so much, we kept it up into March.
And then the closures came along with the pandemic and we were home. A lot. We decided the tree did not need to be strictly designated to just one holiday. And with all the color options, we could make a Christmas tree into a Valentine tree, a St. Patrick’s Day tree, a patriotic tree, a birthday tree with just the push of a button.
And now we have celebrated Christmas again with the tree in exactly the same spot it has stood for over a year. As we lovingly packed it away, I overheard Nathanael exclaim, “Oh my gosh! The living room looks, like, so much more big!!”
It’s time for a new year, a new start, and new space for living, loving, and learning.
