One Small Step

May 31, 2020

What has happened and continues to happen in our country is heartbreaking and absolutely wrong.  I don’t feel like I have the words.  I definitely don’t have the answers.  And I feel helpless, not knowing what to say or do.  So today, Jon and I decided to do something seemingly small but significant.

We talked to our kids.

We reviewed history together and went beyond what they knew from school.  We explained privilege and shared examples. We talked about shame and anger and hurt and fear.  We cried together as we told them about what is happening in our country.  And we talked about the importance of standing against injustice.

It’s one small step.  And we will keep trying to do the next right thing to learn and love others well.
