Facing a Fear - Kind Of…

July 13, 2022

Another day. Another ill-prepared footwear situation.

Besides a day hiking and a day at the Great NY State Fair, we typically take our kids to WonderWorks in Syracuse each summer. I keep waiting for them to grow out of it, but so far they still love the exhibits - especially the bubble lab and 4D movies.

They haven’t been very interested in the huge, terrifying ropes course that sways three stories over the mall atrium. Until this year.

Normally, I’d sit it out and encourage everyone from the sidelines. But this year I decided to face some fears and do the thing. Apparently, this kind of treachery requires closed-toe shoes. Once again, I was grossly unprepared. But nothing a $10 pair of kicks from Wal-Mart couldn’t solve.

I strapped in with the kids, climbed the steps, walked along a few planks, and then listened to my body and stood watching and cheering the kids on and letting other people past me while still strapped in and perched way up high!

I’m proud of trying and also proud of listening to my inner voice!
