The Orchard

October 9, 2023

We have a place that is bordered by an apple orchard.

While the owner has given permission for people to walk through the green-leafed rows, I have never ventured in. Neighbors have shared about the lovely clearing in the center - a favorite stop for many.

But something really scary happened there one night this summer. It’s not my story to tell but it has left me with a sense a fear.

So today, with pumpkin corn chowder in hand, facing the bright, warming fall sun, I decided to take my first walk through the mostly harvested trees. Through the soft tractor treaded floor. Into the beautiful clearing.

I took it in. I snapped some pictures to remember. I breathed deeply.

This land is fertile. It is filled with beauty. And growth. And peace. And life.

There is nothing to fear here anymore.
