Entering Into A New Year

December 30, 2023

I’m anticipating lots of posts in my feed filled with reflection on the past year and eager anticipation for the year to come. And this is all good and valid. I have been there before, too.

And I find myself in a different place this year and want to acknowledge this for those who may find themselves in similar places.

While we have had some wonderful times, I am leaving 2023 worn down, fatigued, spent. The past two months in particular have presented us with five very significant, completely unexpected circumstances in the lives of people we love. Each one brings many unique, complicated dynamics with many unknowns and few clear answers.

They are all heavy and sad and scary.

So we look to a new year knowing there is a lot of uncharted water still ahead. A lot of waiting, getting more information, and choosing to do the next right thing while also acknowledging we are not in control of so much of it.

So here is what I am planning/trying to do as we step into 2024:

~ Enter with hope.

~ Keep feeling the feelings.

~ Take care of myself the best I can.

~ Show up for myself and others the best I can.

~ Ask for help and support when I need it.

~ Give myself grace.

~ Take one day at a time.

If you are facing the new year exhausted, depleted, and afraid, you are not alone. We will keep moving forward one day at a time together.
