A Frozen First

October 6, 2023

This week was full.

One day, I had six places to be in one evening after work.

But one night, there was only one thing on the calendar. And so, when it finished, I peeked to see if there were any tickets left to see the touring cast of Frozen.

There was one lonely ticket in the first row.

Calling my name.

An hour later, I found my way to the front and sat directly by the French Horn player. It must be a sign. French Horn has been on my dream list since high school. It is time.

If you have not already seen it, know that it is filled with what my friend simply calls “Disney Magic.” I’m still trying to figure out how all the things happened during a live theatrical performance. Amazing!

As the first scene unfolded, I realized despite knowing most of the music, I had never actually seen Frozen before.

I didn’t know the story line. I didn’t know what would happen. And I realized I should have brought tissues! I was completely unprepared for the waterworks throughout the whole thing!

First, the isolation, loneliness, and grief of two sisters separated. The shame each feels - one for hurting her sister, the other from the weight of perceived responsibility for the loss.

The fear. The self-punishment.

And also, the connection, the hope, the love.

It was all palpable.
